Pornhub parent Aylo says it will restrict UK users from February 2, after six months of complying with the UK's OSA; users who verified their ages can log in

Starting February 2, many people connecting from the UK will not be able to access the porn site and many others.

Context & Ripple Effects

The move follows Aylo's earlier commitment to add government-approved age-assurance methods for its UK services under the Online Safety Act. It also lands after reported traffic declines under the new checks, including Pornhub's reported UK traffic drop following their introduction.

The immediate issue is no longer whether age assurance is available, but whether it is sufficient to preserve ordinary access for users who have not completed it.

First-order effects

  • UK users without completed age verification face loss of access, while verified users retain a login path.
  • Aylo must operate Pornhub as a split UK service: authenticated users remain reachable, and a large unverified audience is excluded.

Second-order effects

  • The restriction makes verified accounts the key funnel for UK traffic and forces other adult sites covered by the OSA to weigh the same trade-off between compliance friction and audience reach.
  • Reduced unverified traffic can shift the value of age-assurance providers and login systems from compliance tooling to a prerequisite for serving UK users.

Third-order effects

  • If this pattern persists, age-gated online services may increasingly treat identity or age credentials as a condition of access rather than a one-time regulatory check.
  • The result could be a more fragmented national internet, with service availability determined by each platform's willingness to absorb verification-related audience loss.

The trend: This is one data point in access-control regulation turning age assurance into a practical gate on online service availability.

this applies to Aylo's free sites; users who've already gone through current age verification will still have access when logged in. but if you're not grandfathered in, you're out www.404media.co/uk-pornhub-b...  [image]
