gee i wonder why he held that news until he was in a room full of fb-stockholder types 🤔🤔🤔🤔 🤔 https://twitter.com/...
  • @joshconstine Josh Constine on x
@mathewi You didn't think asking about their issues with Apple's policies was newsworthy? https://constine.substack.com/ ... https://twitter.com/...

@scotwingo @retailgeek @DiemAssociation What's the problem? Shopify merchants can integrate onto many platforms to sell, advertise, brand build, do cross channel promotions, etc.. Facebook is one of many very strong Shopify's partners for such, where Facebook even allows their Sh…

@nbashaw @JoshConstine I think it's great when they do that too. But can you think of something important they revealed in that conversation that they wouldn't have talked about otherwise?
  • @joshconstine Josh Constine on x
@mathewi @nbashaw Yes. This! Bloomberg said his comments on Apple rallied the share price to the biggest gain since November, so it seems to have been empirically something he hadn't said despite the situation being this way for months https://www.bloomberg.com/...
  • @tallseller Tall Seller on x
@scotwingo @retailgeek @DiemAssociation The problem w/ the assertion that Facebook, Amazon, & other such big tech marketplaces & social media will overpower all, is its politically correct for regulators to make sure they fairly treat & enable individual businesses, who use Shopi…

Now when I hear this I think: Facebook preparing for IDFA by pulling in transactional platform. Where will this leave Shopify? @TallSeller you seeing thr problem yet? Cc @retailgeek https://twitter.com/...
  • @nbashaw Nathan Baschez on x
@JoshConstine @mathewi I think it's good if powerful people let their guard down and chat in public. It will often reveal important things that formal interviews with journalists won't. And I think that's in the public interest.

Zuckerberg is the Tiger or MJ of this generation of business leaders. Relentlessly focused on winning at all costs. Apple amazes me at how great their design talent is; Facebook amazes me at how great their execution is. The Shopify partnership is going to be significant https://…

@TallSeller @retailgeek @DiemAssociation I'm objective and unbiased and when I hear Zuck saying they are focused on opening stores (I think driven by IDFA changes), that seems bad to shopify. Sure, they will be one checkout payment option, but I don't think that's as good as bein…

@scotwingo @retailgeek So what's the problem? Shopify is Facebook's main e-commerce innovation partner.
  • @ccm_ryan Ryan Henderson on x
$FB Hot Take: Instagram will go the way of Facebook. The experience has been so diluted down with ads, it's unbearable. Doesn't bode well for e-commerce entry either.
  • @tallseller Tall Seller on x
@scotwingo @retailgeek @DiemAssociation I really don't understand what problem you refer to. Do you think that the Facebook Shops number Zuck referred to doesn't correlate to Shopify merchants? Shopify merchants are many of the most successful merchants setting up Facebook Shops …
  • @mathewi Mathew Ingram on x
Here's the problem with Clubhouse: Getting Mark Zuckerberg, Daniel Ek, and Tobi Lutke in a room together is great, but very little of substance comes out of it IMO. The only new thing I learned is Mark likes the “smoking meats” meme. Zero hard questions https://constine.substack.…

If Zuckerberg really thought journalism was part of his “creator economy,” he'd be showering us all with backpay for years of stolen reader revenue and giving us fat monthly stipends in exchange for controlling traffic to our publications. https://twitter.com/...

Mark Zuckerberg is speaking on Clubhouse right now about the creator economy and says he thinks journalism is a part of this economy. The goal, he says, is to create “business models around journalism and long-form writing” 🤔

  • @fosspatents Florian Mueller on x
Don't misunderstand the headline: the direct impact of #Apple's #IDFA changes on #Facebook's ad biz is negative, but—the way I understand it—they expect Apple's heavy-handedness to make Facebook's own platforms like Facebook Shops more popular places to do business vs. Apple's. h…

Super interesting.... Facebook's PR team put out a packaged email about Mark Zuckerberg's announcement today on Clubhouse that FB has over 1 million Shops on FB & Insta and over 250 million monthly visitors. Clubhouse as a strategic PR vehicle for companies is happening.

If Zuck thinks journalists are part of the “creator economy,” he massively undervalues the role of journalism in society. (No surprise there.) So are engineers just “creators” too? Should they be paid in tips for their code? Or via royalties for software? https://twitter.com/...

The fact that the CEOs of Facebook, Spotify, and Shopify are having a clubhouse chat for hours about Content Creators and the Creator Economy should tell you a lot about about where things are heading. So much opportunity ahead. https://twitter.com/...

Facebook is reportedly working on a #clubhouse competitor. Yet, Mark Zuckerberg is on the app right now speaking to thousands of people. Will @joinClubhouse enforce their TOS or give their tech friends a pass? You agree to not use the Service to: https://twitter.com/...

@CaseyNewton Zuckerburg panning Apple for providing itself private APIs for its products is the ultimate hypocrisy. The entire FB ecosystem of products has exclusive API access to one another.

@sarafischer Also, can't remember the last time he announced something outside a FB-owned and operated property or event.

So interesting to have Mark Zuckerberg, Daniel Ek and Tobi Lutke on Clubhouse at the same time. Would've been hard—impossible?— to do in a regular panel.

Mark Zuckerberg on Clubhouse today talking about their Shopify partnership: There are now 1M Facebook Shops with 250M monthly shoppers. The scale of anything they do is so 🤯.
  • @baratunde @baratunde on x
Currently listening to this Clubhouse room with Mark Zuckerberg which I think is just him and others dunking on Apple. Is this the new corporate communications strategy?
  • @kiyanak Kiyana Katebi on x
You're not gonna believe this, but there are mini rooms in CH right now that are just broadcasting Zuck's event as the main room he's speaking has been overflowed and many can't get in. 🤭 https://twitter.com/...
  • @jason_kint Jason Kint on x
whoever is essentially relaying Mark's gaslighting how Apple's privacy changes are bad for small business and the open web should be removed from stage is very disappointing, I'm glad I don't know who it is. It would prob be bad if I knew. They should work for FB PR.
  • @benedictevans Benedict Evans on x
Meanwhile; the demand for side-loading is so totally misguided. On one side it kills half the security model, and on the other it's too geeky to be viable as a real competitive distribution channel. You need the store and the sandbox, and you need to engage with the rules
  • @benedictevans Benedict Evans on x
Listening to an hour of tech CEOs saying they would like to do XYZ on iOS is fine, but it would be good to pull apart what's really just Apple rent-seeking (Spotify) and what are genuine trade-offs around privacy and security.
  • @jason_kint Jason Kint on x
Clubhouse has given Zuckerberg another channel to bypass difficult questions. And talk about what he wants to talk about... https://twitter.com/...
  • @benedictevans Benedict Evans on x
Listening to Zuck digging in on Apple's ‘private APIs’ on Clubhouse. Illustrates the point that side-loading and competing app stores do not get at half the things regulators will look at. You have to get at the rules, wherever they're implemented.
  • @caseynewton Casey Newton on x
Zuckerberg says private APIs on iOS pose a bigger business risk to Facebook than the much-discussed changes to IDFA. There's an increasingly big difference between what FB can do on Android vs. iOS, he says

Zuckerberg said that Facebook Shops now have 1 million monthly active businesses, visited by 250 million people a month. From a partnership with Shopify that launched a year ago
