With its new positive tech news site, Andreessen Horowitz is answering the question “What if someone actually wrote up all the boring PR pitches about crypto/AI/mindfulness reporters receive and ignore every day?” https://future.a16z.com/ https://twitter.com/...

From the people for whom owning everything is not enough: “[Future is] expected to provide what a firm spokesperson calls an ‘optimistic’ view of tech, in contrast to what it believes is excessively negative coverage in the traditional tech media.” https://www.axios.com/...
  • @benyt Ben Smith on x
In retrospect, the media panic over VC efforts to counter independent journalism with Clubhouse (remember that?) and a new website of essays and pods about the future seems a bit overblown https://www.axios.com/...
  • @monteiro Mike Monteiro on x
Egghead and Mr. Freeze launch “content site” for enjoyment of people. “Don't worry, site is not evil.” says Mr. Freeze. https://www.axios.com/...

I know it's being mocked for pretending it's not just PR, but this site could definitely benefit from the help of good PR professionals who know how to keep things clear and, uh, shorter. https://twitter.com/...

Tech reporters, who hate tech, also hate new site that is launched just because tech reporters hate tech (expand the discussion section on below link for all the fun). https://www.techmeme.com/...

A sentence structure that is almost always true: “In retrospect, the media panic over [anything] seems a bit overblown” https://twitter.com/...

Yay, more content. Some lazy observations: 1. they own https://future.com/ but still redirect to a https://a16z.com/ subdomain https://twitter.com/... 2. no Twitter feed for it 3. no RSS 4. there's a joke here about a16z not believing Substack or Medium are the “Future” https://t…

VC firm Andreessen Horowitz launched its content site called Future, which is expected to provide an “optimistic” view of technology, in contrast to what it believes is excessively negative coverage of the industry. https://www.axios.com/...

What I like about this is AH wants all the benefits of “brand journalism” while seemingly despising all journalists and investigative reporting https://twitter.com/...
  • @jaycodon @jaycodon on x
There was a ton of panic over a16z looking to launch its own media arm. It was overblown. This is just a bunch of essays that are meant to make technology look good. It's not an either-or scenario. Journalism still exists and so does this. https://www.axios.com/...

I see the future of journalism does not involve any editors politely asking if the authors have considered the glaring red flags https://future.a16z.com/... https://twitter.com/...

The single most advanced law-as-code system I can think of is YouTube's ContentID. Now imagine if ContentID had direct access to your bank account and could put you in jail. That does not seem very... optimistic
