New story: Apple has decided it won't replace its departing industrial design chief Evans Hankey in a significant shift, dropping a critical role in the post Jony Ive era. Apple's designers will now report directly to COO Jeff Williams. https://www.bloomberg.com/...

To be fair, Apple design has given way to improving functionality and utility, without really degrading design. Macs in particular have gone through a function-first renaissance and they look better than ever because of it. So I'm unmoved by these changes at the top.

End of an era. With Jony Ive's exit in 2019, Apple's elite design team lost its powerful voice inside an incredibly hierarchical company. Replacing one of the world's elite designers — and his decades of political capital — was never going to be easy. https://twitter.com/...

This is wild. Apple's head of industrial design used to be the biggest rock star at the company. Now Apple is going to eliminate the role. The Jony Ive era is definitely long gone. https://www.bloomberg.com/... via @markgurman

It makes you wonder if you'll still be able to identify the Apple aesthetic in a few years. Or will it just be the same as it is now.

Wow, first the Genius Bar workers unionize over pressure to constantly upsell and now this. Not the halcyon Apple of my youth. https://www.bloomberg.com/...
