Today, after nearly 25 years at @Google, I'm stepping back to start a new chapter. I'm inspired every day by creators around the world who bring people together on @YouTube. It's been an honor to have a front row seat to this incredible community. https://blog.youtube/...

Thank you, @SusanWojcicki. It's been amazing to work with you over the years. You've built YouTube into an extraordinary home for creators and viewers. I'm excited to continue this awesome and important mission. Looking forward to what lies ahead... https://twitter.com/...

Wojcicki, who has been at Google for 25 years - she rented her garage to its cofounders - says she's leaving to focus on “family, health and personal projects.” She is replaced by Neal Mohan, who has worked with her at Google for years and has been her #2 at YouTube since 2015.

The ez take on Susan leaving is “Yay the source of all our problems is gone” but if we're honest the CEO of YouTube (often unfairly) becomes the scapegoat for literally everything that goes wrong at the company, no matter what actually happens

Susan exits Dorsey style, knowing shit's gonna hit the fan real hard. https://twitter.com/...

Susan did more for creators as CEO of YouTube than all the people dunking on her will ever accomplish in their entire lives. Yeah I said what I said... and yes I am that petty... someone needs to say it because the ignorance around her time at YouTube and her contributions is emb…

Honestly, this makes me really nervous. YouTube isn't perfect, but it's a damn good job to have and I'm sure Susan has had a lot to do with that. https://twitter.com/...

Another Indian-American at the helm of big tech.. IMO, YouTube has been one of the fairly stable content platforms amid all the turbulence in Twitter and FB! https://twitter.com/...

I was lucky enough to work for @SusanWojcicki when I was early in my career at Google. Susan was brilliant, thoughtful, strong & kind to everyone. She was also one of the few other working moms at the time and made it easier for the rest of us. I'm forever grateful for Susan ❤️🙏 …

⚠ There's a reason why all tik tokers and instagrammers end up on YouTube instead of any other platform. It's the place where you can build a real connection with an audience and build a real business. No other platform has that. YouTube is more than a TikTok copycat!!

A trend: Susan W was “CEO” of YouTube. Neal will be “Head.” Kevin was “CEO” of Instagram. Adam is “Head.” Big tech cos are consolidating their divisions.

Disappointed to see this. Susan was unfairly blamed for a lot of YouTube's issues, but considering the significant hurdles of the past few years, the site has been relatively stable, and often looks expertly managed compared to the likes of twitch. https://twitter.com/...

I've known @SusanWojcicki for decades from Google in the early days and, while we have had decades of lively debates about the company, there is no one who has been as gracious and few as wildly competent. A quiet and self-effacing legend, who deserved more bows than she took. ht…

There are so few women in tech leadership positions, and Susan has had a huge role in YouTube's growth and dominance even when other platforms try to compete. I might be in the minority but as a person who's had a career on YT since 2008, I've seen it all. https://twitter.com/...

(this won't change for the new CEO) The truth is YouTube will continue to grow and change and have problems and fix problems... and will probably continue to be the most stable, reasonable place to exist as a creator, as long as they keep listening to creators like they have
  • @mkbhd Marques Brownlee on x
YouTube has had its problems over the years, but then you look around at Twitter, Instagram, FB, Google+ etc and realize it's been one of the most stable, consistent platforms for creators for the better part of a decade https://twitter.com/...

If you're unfamiliar with Neal Mohan (where were you between 2017 and 2020 when YouTube was going through it and all the questions were effectively aimed toward Wojcicki or Mohan), this Deccoder interview with @reckless is a good place to start. https://www.theverge.com/...
  • @loudmouthjulia Julia Alexander on x
Neal Mohan succeeding Susan Wojciciki as YouTube CEO is the most inevitable (and I'd argue strong) succession, focusing on product at a time when YouTube is looking to integrate Shorts further and beat out competitors. It was especially inevitable with Robert Kyncl out.

Wojcicki spent years building YouTube's relationship with advertisers, and built it into a $29 billion operation. She also contended with its many critics. Some argued that YouTube unfairly censors video-makers; others say the site doesn't do enough to police harmful content.
