This survey adds a US listening-time measure to an earlier finding that listeners often cannot identify synthetic tracks: a Deezer-Ipsos survey found 97% of respondents could not distinguish AI-generated music. It also gives broader context to the listener traction of the AI-created Velvet Sundown project.

The significance is not that AI music has displaced conventional music, but that a substantial share of younger respondents report making it part of their weekly audio routine.

    If you consider, as i do, much of mainstream pop as already sloptimized synthetic lala, these numbers are not surprising and seem to underestimate the lust for mediocre shit.  As i like to say, this is music for people who hate music.  [embedded post]
