In an ironic twist, Amazon blocks Perplexity from buying items from its website on behalf of users with an AI agent only to have the same exact feature called “Buy for Me”. — Amazon doesn't want to be disintermediated but is happy to disintermediate others.

“Agents” may be a nonfunctional fantasy technology, but Amazon has made damned sure they can do the one thing that matters (to Amazon): place orders. — How anyone, anywhere thought giving “agents” your credit card was a thing consumers would want is beyond me.

This was the exact reason Amazon sued Perplexity for using its own shopping tool on Amazon.com btw [embedded post]
