One-fifth is what OpenAI says GPT-6.1 Sol costs relative to Astra’s standard price, while nearly matching it on some work. Yet the always-on agents OpenAI launched this week run on GPT-6 Astra, not Sol.

Sol’s discount does not price Dots

The Sol release makes that near-parity claim for agentic coding and professional work. For tasks where Sol suffices, its price could lower the cost of individual model calls. Dots, meanwhile, gives each always-on agent a cloud computer and is available to eligible ChatGPT subscribers. Its Astra model and subscription access make Sol’s one-fifth rate a poor guide to what the agent service costs.

Anthropic’s growth leaves the supplier question open

Anthropic’s IPO prospectus reported roughly $4.6 billion in 2025 revenue, up twelvefold, alongside a $42 billion net loss. Two customers supplied about a quarter of that revenue. Those are Anthropic’s figures, not OpenAI’s costs, but they give buyers another question to put beside a cheap task rate: how durable is the company supplying the agent?

A safety gate stopped one Astra release

OpenAI scrapped the planned public launch of GPT-6.1 Astra after saying it failed its internal safety bar. Dots runs on GPT-6 Astra, a different model. The gate held back one release while an always-on service was available to eligible subscribers.

Apple is adding controls around macOS Full Disk Access, citing the risks AI agents bring to that permission. A model provider decides whether its model passes a release test; a Mac user still needs a way to decide how much of a disk an agent may reach.

Voluntary principles now face a compulsory inquiry

After meeting AI leaders, Trump called an AI document “morally binding”; House Speaker Mike Johnson said its principles were voluntary for industry. The FTC probe of OpenAI, Anthropic, and other frontier labs asks a different kind of question. Sources said the agency is examining potential consumer harms and plans to compel executives to testify. The probe establishes no wrongdoing, but executives may have to answer questions that a voluntary document cannot require them to address.

One-fifth prices Sol against Astra. It cannot tell a Mac user how much of a disk to let an agent see.
