Twitter under Elon Musk has yet to publish transparency reports detailing government content removal demands; the company published its last report in July 2022

@elonmusk You're such a dummy. This was already in place and will not resolve your obligation to remove various types of material that you are required, by law, to do. Through a process called “content moderation.” The good news, I guess, is that this company's tech will fail before that.

Frankly, there is a problem with the fetishizing of data access among researchers who, in many cases, don't actually require said access to carry out their research or answer their questions. The great desire to have access to something almost taboo transforms into a “have to.”

Probably an unpopular opinion among my peers, but “greater access to Facebook data” does not seem to me like the most pressing issue for researchers to take on. I'm not saying it's not an issue. But the top one? When excessive data-gathering by firms is a major problem?

Another way to tackle this would be to, say, create, I dunno, a legal carve-out for researchers doing work intended for public benefit that would not see them banned for doing data collection and analysis of their own.
