INCREDIBLE to hear about Blizzard's World of Warcraft team unionizing. These first few major US studios to take the step into unionizing are such important moments: as conditions for these teams are slowly forced to improve, other studios in the country will want to follow.

My heart goes out to everybody at Insomniac Games. This is beyond fucked up - hackers leaking game data is already really fucked up, but leaking employee data is absolutely inexcusable.

You know what, on first glance, I think this works? It's effectively a 2.5% revenue share for $1M+p/y earners? No retroactivity left, LTS stability, no black-box data, yeah? I think that works for every use-case. https://blog.unity.com/...

It's terrifying to think Unity leadership dragged this over the weekend leaving every studio out there with genuine existential concerns, and even now cannot simply go “our intent is to drop the per-install fee”. We have to be worried longer & we have to keep talking about this.

I think the one thing in this email that gets me is the suggestion that more *capitalism* from aggressive US shareholders could create a scenario where Nintendo could effectively be weakened into a merger.

I'm afraid this changes exactly nothing to the four points I mentioned yesterday. It remains an enormous uncertainty for developers, a retro-active adjustment to terms, an absurd amount of extra tracking, a technical impossibility, & the only business model that can bankrupt you.

Listen folks, y'all can stop arguing the specifics. Here's the four main things: - Unity should not be able to retroactively change the terms & conditions on products or sales you've already made. Them making this move says they're willing to, and that should be terrifying.

Literally the entire situation with Unity could've been avoided if they'd gone with a good ol' revenue share. Nobody would've liked that, but it would literally have avoided almost *every single issue* that people have raised, and the objections would've blown over in a moment.
