I'm betting most folks in the Apple ecosystem have been stung by Apple's *unique* 2FA implementation.  “A message with a verification code has been sent to your other devices...” So forgive us if we're a little leery of trusting iCloud to have our backs with Passkeys, like when we need emergency access to an account while traveling. …

Firstyear's blog-a-log

Google and Apple use passkeys to capture users by locking credentials into their platforms and have made the UX of passkeys worse than that of password managers

At around 11pm last night my partner went to change our lounge room lights with our home light control system.

Sad, but not unexpected that Post is shutting down.  I had a username over there.  But for some reason, I never felt compelled to use it for anything.  I think I only went back to it once or twice after signing up.

Post.News, the news-focused social platform launched in 2022 that offered micropayments to publishers, is shutting down after failing to grow “fast enough”

Post News, a Twitter alternative that emerged in the wake of Elon Musk's takeover, is shutting down.

When I work on a product and its brand elements, I don't really ever anticipate its future demise, let alone its disappearance.  RIP, Twitter, and all the Larry birds.

Elon Musk's rebranding of Twitter to X shows his takeover is best understood not as a money-making endeavor, but as an extended act of cultural vandalism

RIP Twitter (2007-2023)  —  On Monday afternoon, a crane rolled up to Twitter's headquarters on Market Street.

I've been spending more time lately on the Fediverse, and less and less time here, in large part thanks to Ivory, the Mastodon iOS client which was just released publicly today. If you were ever a Tweetbot user, you'll feel right at home in Ivory.

A review of Ivory, a new Mastodon iOS app from Tapbots, maker of the now-defunct Tweetbot: an inspired design, Tweetbot-like gestures, custom filters, and more

You *can* add a non-Mastodon account to it.  Here, I added my @viticci@pixelfed.social profile to Ivory and posted a picture from the app. … Tweets: Veerle Pieters / @vpieters : Th...

It's like Apple gave up, and is saying: “Now's the time to try Chrome, Brave, Firefox, or Edge. We no longer care about being the lead Mac browser.” BTW, Brave and Firefox are both pretty darn good. If you haven't given them a good spin yet, Apple just gave you an excuse. https://twitter.com/...

I'm honestly a little skeptical of Intuit's intentions and track record. But this feels huge regardless. https://twitter.com/...
