ASPI: Myanmar's online scam centers on the Thai border have increased from 11 to 27 since the military coup in 2021, holding an estimated 100K trafficked people

Operated by crime syndicates and fostered by the country's military junta, the number of vast complexes such as KK Park on the Thai-Myanmar border has doubled since 2021

This report has been paired with remarkable on-the-ground reporting by the @Guardian and @Rebeccarat, who visited (and nearly lost a drone!) the Myawaddy border, a global hotspot of this scam industry. Read their reporting here https://www.theguardian.com/ ...

The existing approaches taken by regional government and multilateral organisations have failed to influence the conditions that allow the industry to flourish. These conditions will not be changed through bilateral engagement with the Burmese junta.

This is like a cartoonishly evil response to someone bringing up massive human rights violations. Imagine how demented you'd have to be to not just think this, but say it loudly on the record. Literally beggars belief that someone can be so much of a one dimension cartoon villain https://twitter.com/...
