Some very helpful numbers out from Gallup today about AI use in the workplace. Since last year, the portion of workers who use AI a few times a week has nearly doubled—to 19%. That figure for white-collar workers has increased from 15 to 27%. https://www.gallup.com/...

As AI gets more powerful, AI execs like Sam Altman have largely stopped talking about potential job loss. But if you look at how much capital investors are putting into AI, it's hard to see how they get their money back w/o millions of jobs disappearing. https://www.nytimes.com/...

A profile of Klarna CEO Sebastian Siemiatkowski, whose overblown statements about AI replacing humans point to a future that tech companies are working toward

Ask typical corporate executives about their goals in adopting artificial intelligence, and they will most likely make vague pronouncements …

But if you automate 10 million jobs that pay an average of $50k per year (so eliminate a cost of $500bn/year), you start to see the potential for the kinds of revenue that could make the math work for investors. If those jobs pay $100k on average, you've saved $1 trillion.

The Sequoia Capital partner David Cahn has estimated that there's a gap of several $100 billion per year b/w the revenue investors need to turn a profit and the revenue companies like OpenAI are generating. Hard to see how they close that gap w/o large scale automation.

So while Sebastian Siemiatkowski, the CEO of Klarna, has idiosyncratic reasons for talking frequently about (and probably overstating) the number of jobs he's automating with AI, it's probably a good thing to have this conversation out in the open.
