Home Office and MoJ plans will require migrants convicted of crimes to take photos up to five times a day

Those obliged to wear the devices will have to ‘check in’ throughout the day by taking a photograph of their face on the watch. The data gathered will be stored for six years and will be shared with the Home Office, MoJ and the police. This, @ukhomeoffice says, is “nothing new”.

The smartwatch scheme will run alongside GPS ankle tags and marks a stepchange in the way the government surveils migrant groups. @privacyint says facial recognition tech is “dangerous” and discriminates against marginalised groups.
