Some criticize YC-backed PearAI for forking AI code editor Continue, which has the Apache open-source license, and slapping on a ChatGPT-written closed license

A Y Combinator startup named PearAI launched with an X post thread and YouTube video on Saturday and created immediate controversy.

This outcome was inevitable! As I mentioned in my previous post, it's an action due to mitigating IP infringement to prevent a preliminary injunction. As a similar situation occurred with Animoji, so they're engaged in private negotiations tied to a licensing deal. Genmoji and [image]

The app that was named “X” because of Unicode characters recently has been rebranded to “Note” an hour ago. Curious if the app title update resulted from litigation by Twitter, or if it was a simpler decision to avoid going viral on social media as “X.” Musk lacks absolute IP... [image]

Twitter is now “X” in the App Store, seemingly via an exception to Apple's rule that requires app names to have two or more characters

Twitter's “X” becomes first one-letter iPhone app Wes Davis / The Verge : Twitter gets special permission to be ‘X’ in the iOS App Store Roshan Abraham / VICE : ‘Blaze Your Glory!’...

On iOS, the situation is distinct as Apple does not permit any app to have a single character as their app name. If they manage to obtain approval, it would mark the first instance since the inception of the iOS App Store that such a permission has been granted. [image]

As Meta shapes its response to regulatory scrutiny, the company begins touting its declining market value, down 60%+ since the spring, to deny having a monopoly

As Meta shapes its antitrust defense, it has begun pointing out its plummeting stock price as a sign that competition is alive and well in its market.

I said this in 2020! You couldn't compete years ago & you still can't! You can't improve your retention. Check. You can't improve your churn. Check. You can't improve your resurrection. That's all been decimated by Tiktok & others. Now you want to cry?! https://twitter.com/...

These companies egging you on are not you, they are not startups who have apps in the App Store. They do not have to live with any consequences here they are empowered by the opportunity to disrupt and benefit from that disruption.
