Meta required a public statesman like Nick Clegg after the Cambridge Analytica scandal, but now turns to the in-house Republican Joel Kaplan to appease Trump

The former UK politician was a public statesman when Meta required one.  A different approach will be called for under Trump.

Sources detail Elon Musk's role in Trump's transition: Mar-a-Lago meetings, calls with world leaders, voicing support for Brendan Carr at the FCC, and more

He's on the patio.  He's on the golf course.  Everywhere Donald Trump looks, there is the world's richest man.

Lot of things going on in this Trump statement announcing Elon Musk's official role in the administration, but notably, there is no mention of the “$2 trillion” that Musk has previously promised he would cut.  Does that mean he's already backing away from the number?

Mark Zuckerberg, Tim Cook, Sundar Pichai, and more quietly courted Trump before the election, laying the groundwork for improved Silicon Valley and DC relations

The executives of tech's biggest companies largely ignored Donald Trump before the 2016 election.  This time around, they're far more friendly.

It appears Meta has suspended the Elon Musk jet tracking accounts on Instagram and Threads.  No apparent expiation either.

Jack Sweeney says Meta suspended Instagram and Threads accounts tracking celebrities' private jets, including Zuckerberg's; Meta cites a “risk of physical harm”

Instagram and Threads accounts that track the private jets of celebrities - including Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk …

As a reminder, this is publicly available information.  These accounts just help present the info to a wider audience.  And one could very much argue that knowing the whereabouts of the planes of a presidential candidate and a major donor who is stumping for said candidate two weeks ahead of an election is beneficial and newsworthy to the public.

It's not the job of a reporter to adhere to an agreement between a company and state agency or regulator.  Attempting to shame NPR for reporting on legitimate documents with a story that benefits the public is absurd.  If TikTok wants to work from out of its trust deficit with the public, make the docs public.

I feel like part of the reason why tech execs enjoy doing podcast interviews like this is that there isn't a reporter on the other side to press them on what exactly they mean when they say stuff like this.  For example: “Do you believe that Facebook was not responsible for fomenting a a genocide?  Was that just a political problem where people were looking for someone to blame?”
