The FDA has approved hearing aid software for Apple's AirPods Pro, which becomes the first over-the-counter hearing aid software device. This is significant because hearing aids are expensive, so this will increase accessibility and may also reduce the stigma of wearing them. [image]

But this is false.  Threads is absolutely getting in the way of news because you are arbitrarily choosing to restrict search results on important news and health words like Covid and vaccines.  Please fix this!

This is bad.  As someone who works in public health I can say that no, redirecting searches for COVID, Long COVID, & vaccines to a static CDC page is not sufficient, & will restrict getting reliable health information out to the public.  1. Info on emergency situations changes quickly, so realtime info is key 2. …

Censorship doesn't work.  Misinformation still gets distributed anyway through code words or alternative platforms.  So then you are left with the huge net negative of preventing users from finding multiple sources of reliable information and getting up to date information in realtime. …

Thanks @taylorlorenz.bsky.social for covering Threads' censoring of Covid, Long Covid & vaccine searches.  Censorship doesn't work.  Misinfo still gets circulated by code names & other platforms.  Tech companies should invest in real solutions like moderation/education. https://www.washingtonpost.com/ ...

Yeah it's meant to show posts (not usernames), which is key for information dissemination and community building.  Try searching another word like climate for instance, you see a bunch of posts.  Threads is deliberately censoring covid search terms.

A US appeals court finds the White House, the CDC, and the FBI likely violated the First Amendment by influencing tech companies' moderation on COVID-19 posts

The Court upheld many restrictions on the White House and Surgeon General's office's contacts with tech companies, finding that they ‘coerced’ platforms' content decisions

Nope, it is censorship.  It restricts community building of scientists who want to communicate with each other about an important issue, and prevents many other sources of reliable information (yes, there's more than one) from communicating with the public.  Completely erasing search of a key topic is harmful. …

Hi @mosseri @zuck @threads, I appreciate that keyword search is finally available, but it's extremely concerning that you have censored searches relating to COVID (apart from directing to the CDC website).  Many of us working in public health have used social media as a key way to get important information out to the public about how to protect themselves during the pandemic. …

I appreciate that it's important to address misinformation.  But there are better solutions than complete censorship.  Far better to invest in moderation; many groups have been doing great work on this and I'm sure would be happy to help them build helpful systems.
