The subtext of GitHub's blog post is crystal clear: they felt deceived by the RIAA, and won't let that happen again. https://github.blog/... https://twitter.com/...

GitHub reinstates the youtube-dl project, raises its bar for DMCA takedown requests, and creates $1M legal defense fund to help open source devs fight takedowns

Today we reinstated youtube-dl, a popular project on GitHub, after we received additional information about the project …

This decision is correct, GitHub's blog post is great, and @EFF's letter that helped everyone get there is super readable and persuasive. This is really a model example of copyright holders exploiting ignorance of technical mechanics, and of the good @EFF can do in the world. https://twitter.com/...

@mdhardeman @yoz @QuinnyPig I'll be more polite. The blog post that sparked this hyperbolically overstates the impact, and still appears to believe Greenwald's terrible misreporting on PRISM. And brings up an unrelated Apple decision not to support e2e in a cloud service. And brings up Akamai for no reason.

True to form, @Voatz' statement deflects blame and misrepresents criticism, casting it as a few people with the a mistaken timetable. If Voatz actually believes this (which I doubt they do), then they are just not listening. Here are some reasons: 1/5 https://www.cyberscoop.com/... https://twitter.com/...

And HackerOne confirms it: they outright booted @Voatz, due to Voatz' poor treatment of security researchers.
