Public response from Meta about their controversy around OpenXR. Honestly happy to see such a strong statement in support of OpenXR. Curious to hear more developer responses. I'm currently about to land in Austin for SXSW and will be offline for a bit.

@Azadux Definitely a both/and situation. I like to point to the strategy doc that Zuckerberg sent out in 2015. It's obviously dated, but their behaviors have proven out their belief that owning key first party apps is more important than system services & hardware. [image]

Feels like Apple is ghosting XR devs here by treating the Apple Vision Pro like any other product launch rather than doing anything deliberate to actually cultivate an entirely new ecosystem. True innovation comes from indie devs, and this post & comments reflects the moment:

I just watched the SUBMERGED film & definitely check it out if you have an Apple Vision Pro.  After watching well over 1000 immersive stories over the past decade, then I have some thoughts: SUBMERGED feels like it's using a little bit too much film grammar that doesn't always work with 180 video...

@ariel_emeraldVR I'd say many of the other Apple Immersive videos released so far do a better job, but they're also much more documentary focused. But I think Charlotte Mikkelborg's Adventure episode did a great job. Any of Felix and Paul's pieces are incredible, and especially Traveling While

@midjourney ... The Meta AI LLM doesn't know your location, and can't input camera yet. Here are some sample prompt and a poem about VR I had it write. The Rayban Meta Smartglasses range from 48-50 grams and feels a bit bulky and heavy. [image]

Hands-on with the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses: a classic look, 12MP vs. 5MP makes a big difference, some audio leakage, and a promising tool for content creators

Unlike the original, I kind of see where Meta's going with its second-gen smart glasses.

@midjourney ... The comfort and ergonomics of Quest 3 are VASTLY improved. The Red Matter demo is absolutely stunning. Two of mixed reality apps had subtle warping of ground that was unsettling. Controllers lighter & awesome haptics. Overall a big upgrade of performance & capabilities [image]
