Every social algorithm favors status (follower count, engagement of prior posts, etc.) much much much more than age.  For that to be true Meta would have to be tipping the scales, which seems pointlessly unethical and easy to catch.

If you have an iPhone, Apple pushes you into iMessage.  You can technically do without it, but you're basically handing over your messaging to it unless you make an effort not to.  You immediately get the nice blue bubble, inline reactions, threading, and other “nice” things that keep you from switching to something else.

Two things can be true at the same time: 1) Apple engages in some sus behavior around consumer lock-in cross-promoting products 2) Meta employees seem to be engaging in a coordinated act of corporate brigading against Apple on their own platform, often failing to disclose their employer and/or ignoring that Meta has a major financial stake in the debate.
