This was still the era when you could only e-mail a handful of people you knew at your own college, at other colleges, or at maybe three companies.  And if you had more than about 100 messages in your inbox, you had to decide which ones you were going to delete before you ran out of space.

In 1991, I shared an apartment with four housemates, two of whom were engaged.  They worked at our college's IT department, and needed to print out all of the e-mail they sent each other because their accounts were going to turn off as soon as they graduated.  They had BINDERS.
