Went back to watch the March 2016 Apple event, the opening portions anyway.  Cook's comments on pushing back against the government is notable and a sign of what it was like to be in a functioning democracy.  At least today we still have privacy and security with Apple  —  www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wIi...

If you get past the doom and gloom headlines, this is interesting news.  Apple Vision Pro's next generation was always a long way off (M5 coming soon still), so pushing to 27/28 is fine if it's lighter/cheaper.  —  In the meantime we get a new Apple product category that'll kill Meta's attempt. …

Whew, lots of the people I follow really hate Liquid Glass.  Like, calling for people to get fired levels of hate.  —  Meanwhile, I'm pretty happy with it.  I do hope Apple gives devs and users some options by final release, especially for accessibility, but beyond that, I like the direction.

Apple's new iOS 26 beta 4 adds more “liquid” back to Liquid Glass design, after dialing it back in beta 3 following social media criticism

ah, I see we're back to “taking screenshots in very specific situations that make Liquid Glass an illegible mess.”  —  It's not that I don't get the sentiment, it's not ideal, but also, it doesn't always look like that?  Like, I have to specifically line up elements to make them unreadable? …

Yep, I make the argument that some ads are good, actually.  Fight me.  —  Apple is one of the few, if only, companies that do advertisements of its own products and services right.  It eschews the modern state of surveillance capitalism and relies on good, old-fashioned billboards we can easily dismiss. …

Time for a whole new monetization strategy for the App Store.  Funny enough, I think Apple is in a good spot to completely upend the industry in a way that's good for Apple and devs.  —  Apple needs a win here, and they've got the cash and headroom to provide it.  Just have to get past the nonsense. …

This redesign was planned for 2024, but the AI push caught Apple off guard.  Now the redesign is more than ready, it seems it'll help distract from Apple's AI efforts in 2025.  —  Excited to see how this all works out.  [embedded post]

Source: the main topic at WWDC will be a redesigned software interface, dubbed Solarium, for all of Apple's operating systems, including tvOS and watchOS

Jony Ive's deal with OpenAI should cause major shockwaves at Apple, especially after a design-team brain drain and struggles in artificial intelligence.

This piece echos my thoughts on Apple Intelligence from a different angle, though John is more unforgiving of the delay.  I do agree though, the WWDC announcement, ad, and delay are all uncharacteristic and a sign that internal processes may be changing.  —  appleinsider.com/articles/25/ ...
