Couldn't agree more with Zuck here.  Quest is an unbelievable product today as-is.  And over time Quest + Meta's Raybans will converge into a socially acceptable, unobtrusive form factor that solves essentially all the same use-cases as Apple's hardware.  Without looking like a doofus.

Now that it can be strapped to our faces and worn in strange places, opinions about Apple's Vision Pro are flying left and right.

@sarthakgh Mind you, this is after I was the lead PM shipping AI capability in messenger from 2017-2019 where they ultimately pdecided to deprioritize the very natural language product which would've given them a 6 year head start on literally every other generative AI application.  I'm glad to see the teams that have been working hard on this for nearly a decade finally get some attention!  But to pretend it's some “we decided in the 11th hour that we needed this” narrative only underplays the battles they all fought to get to that place.

Q&A with Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth on generative AI reshaping Meta, facial recognition, regulations, open source, Llama, AGI, recruiting, Mistral AI, and more

@boztank @sarthakgh That's fair! And good to know! The phrasing in the interview was just revisionist in nature, hence calling it out. But even multimodal was being prototyped on V1 specs.

@sarthakgh This is revisionist history.  I was the lead PM shipping the assistant and Meta/RayBan glasses starting in Jan 2020 when the project was initially getting off the ground.  Much of leadership and the rest of the organization continually underfunded, underemphasized the importance of AI assistance on them and even considered scrapping our work for Alexa.
