fwiw: this would be my best guess too. She's carried a lot of water for Musk in ad world from the beginning. Also, if it turns out to be her, nbc should immediately investigate the expanded partnership that nbc just inked with Twitter for any potential conflicts. Sketchy. https://twitter.com/...

4/ Plenty other examples. Point is: the fear levels have increased and many are just hoping they can keep head down and make exit when moment arises. His conduct has slowed the bleeding a bit among ad world, but it's also calcified notion that Twitter is a bad advertising bet.

Twitter suspends several journalists, including the NYT's Ryan Mac and CNN's Donie O'Sullivan; Elon Musk says the “same doxxing rules apply to journalists”

Twitter suspended several high-profile journalists Thursday evening who have been covering the company and Elon Musk.

1/RE suspension of journalists. This latest action aligns with a general mood i've been getting from advertisers the past week. Specifically, concerns about retaliation by Musk. The angst about his brazenness has had a weird chilling effect.

This is why public pressure and in particular consumer and advertiser pressure matters. Doesn't make all the problems go away and much more to fix. But this prevents one big problem from manifesting before elections. Onward! https://twitter.com/...

7/ My point here is: It's actually worse than that I think a lot of people even appreciate all because Musk's conduct and commitments to roll back brand safety and community safeguards essentially obliterated Twitter's new front sales event that woulda secured 2023 revenue.

Elon Musk says Twitter suffered “a massive drop in revenue” due to activist groups pressuring advertisers, despite doing “everything” to “appease the activists”

1/ There is some pretty substantial context about Twitter's 2023 revenue and advertisers that I think partly help explains why Musk is really losing it... And it involves upfront ad sales. Let me explain...

This is when advertisers should engage the most here. All the more reason for the major players to make it crystal clear that they will walk if Musk follows through with his promises to roll back brand safety and community safeguards. https://twitter.com/...

Elon Musk says Twitter will form a content moderation council with “widely diverse viewpoints” for making major decisions about content and reinstating accounts

1/ This is bizarre and self destructive for the commission and goals of regulation passed. The deal isn't done yet and Musk mired in controversy. The EU basically ignores all evidence and instead gives musk a little stamp of approval. https://twitter.com/...

5/ In short, this will make the existing problem worse because: a) it punishes good information just as much as it punishes bad information; b) the asymmetry means the right-wing/junk sources will fill any gaps; c) calcifies an existing problem and makes harder to fix. great.

Facebook plans to downrank current events content and political posts in the News Feed, after users approved of tests that limited such content

1/ I'm not sure this is a good thing for a few reasons... a) For starters, FB isn't good at defining political. For example, daily wire has spent over 10M on ads this year alone. But FB political ad library says they have spent 800k on political/social ads since 2018. C'mon! https://twitter.com/...

4/ Separately, this action doesn't show that FB was effective at addressing this problem; it's proof of how ineffective and negligent they have been. 1.3 billion accounts were able to proliferate...before they acted? They waited until October? Not earlier. C'mon.

Facebook says it took down 1.3B fake accounts from October-December and 12M pieces of COVID-19 misinformation; Facebook has 35,000 staff tackling misinformation

1/ Facebook announced today they deleted 1.3 billion fake accounts between Oct - Dec 2020. They're highlighting this as an example of them fighting disinformation effectively. Actually, it shows opposite and there's a big question about consumer fraud that needs to be asked.

2/ RE Fraud - 1.3 billion is *a lot* of accounts. Think of all the advertisers on the platform (political orgs, civic groups, corporations). Facebook took money from advertisers, then FB showed those ads to fake accounts they let proliferate on the platform unchecked. It's fraud

3/ RE Fraud (cont...) - Every FB advertiser should demand a refund for any money FB charged them to serve ads to these fake accounts. Only way Facebook will start addressing this on an ongoing basis and not once every few years is if it costs them money. A refund bare minimum.
