@Moonalice ... It's even worse than it appears — companies send your info to $FB even if you don't have a FB account (that's one of the places “shadow profiles” come from)

A Consumer Reports study involving 709 volunteers: 186,892 companies had sent data about the volunteers to Facebook, or an average of 2,230 companies per person

A new study looks at who is sending information about your online activity to Facebook … By now most internet users know their online activity is constantly tracked.

Facebook's “Download Your Information” does provide more info than the law requires—but it doesn't always identify the company using your personal data so that you can actually find them. (Who is “Bm 5 100tkqc nlm” and how did they get my email address?)

@eric_seufert @tjl Maybe they're both sort of right? If the agency is spending on Facebook based on cost per conversion, it could be that from the agency POV the performance is the same, but from the Facebook POV they are having to use more resources to produce the same number of conversions?

@josephfcox Read the bill, though. Advertisers can still dump your purchases and other activity to FB/G for targeting, as long as they “attest” they aren't revealing “protected class” info about you. A partial ban at best, and does not address riskiest/least accepted surveillance practices
