Signature's and SVB's collapse was aided by GOP-led Dodd-Frank reforms that raised the “stress test” threshold from $50B to $250B, pushed for by SVB executives

Officials with Signature and Silicon Valley banks, which regulators seized in recent days, called for looser financial requirements for midsize banks.

I'm really proud of this whole series, which I expect will shift the public debate around sports betting. But on the off-chance you don't want to read 16,000 words of in-depth investigations, we have a much briefer version that has some of the highlights. https://www.nytimes.com/...

An investigation reveals how online US sports betting grew so big, so fast and what the consequences are likely to be for public health, taxpayers, and others

The New York Times examined thousands of pages of documents and interviewed lobbyists, executives, lawmakers …

Part 1: After SCOTUS in 2018 opened door to sports betting, the gambling and sports industries launched an epic lobbying blitz in state capitals. To get their way, lobbyists showered lawmakers with money, gifts and dubious data. @EricLiptonNYT @kenvogel https://www.nytimes.com/...

Anyone who turns on the TV today is likely to see an ad for sports betting. Virtually overnight, sports betting has gone from being mostly illegal in the US to being everywhere. Why? How? At what cost? Today @nytimes is publishing a 4-part investigation into this industry. 🧵🧵 https://twitter.com/...

Online sports betting companies are cutting big deals with US colleges to promote gambling to students, like Caesars Sportsbook's $8.4M deal with Michigan State

In order to reap millions of dollars in fees, universities are partnering with betting companies to introduce their students and sports fans to online gambling.

We even found one school - @CUBoulder - that actually gets a $30 fee from a betting company each time someone downloads and uses a gambling app. “It's appalling for the university to be collecting a bounty,” a CU Boulder law professor told us. https://www.nytimes.com/...
