THEY BOTCHED THE NOTCH (but maybe not for the reason you're thinking) https://www.theverge.com/... https://twitter.com/...

Apple botched the notch on the MacBook Pros by leaving out Face ID; the bezels are smaller but not ultrathin like on Dell and HP rivals

All the downsides of the notch, without the Face ID benefits  —  The day that many have been dreading has finally arrived.  Apple has added a notch to its new MacBook Pros.

iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 are here! My review is up over @verge! But in short, they're *very* incremental updates; there's no big flashy feature here (other than SharePlay, which is delayed), but the stuff that is here works nicely. https://www.theverge.com/... https://twitter.com/...

Review of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, which are now available: focus modes are great, Safari update is an acquired taste, and iOS' Dark Sky-style Weather is excellent

Apple's latest updates lay good groundwork, but don't add many big new features  —  iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 are strange updates.

As always, the most important question in tech comes down to “what is a button?” https://twitter.com/...

The Verge

A fair reading of the Epic vs. Apple injunction suggests that Apple needs to allow third-party payment methods in the app and not just links to ones on the web

it specified buttons and external links, which means they are presumed to be distinct. So a button can't just be an external link that kicks you to Safari.” - good read by ⁦@reckle...

One of the first thoughts around foldable smartphones is a high price tag, but that tune is changing.

Wacky little scoop here today: Apple's weather app — at least on the current version of iOS — won't show the temperature 69ºF, for *some* reason.... 🤔 https://www.theverge.com/... https://twitter.com/...
2021-07-14 View on X
The Verge

The current version of Apple's Weather app won't show 69 degrees, rounding a degree, potentially due to sourcing data in Celsius and converting to Fahrenheit

It's not so nice  —  If you're an iPhone user, the weather is always a particularly nice 70 degrees.  Or 68 degrees.

UPDATE: As several folks have pointed out, this seems to be a rounding error from conversions from Celsius to Fahrenheit. Also impacts numbers like 65ºF, or 71ºF, which are not as meme-able. A fun reminder of rounding errors in unit conversion, though! https://twitter.com/...

Safari's new redesign will be the most noticeable change for most folks, and I suspect, the most controversial. I get what Apple's going for here — namely, better one-handed use, especially on larger screens — but it's definitely an adjustment. https://twitter.com/...

My LG Wing review is here! I *really* wanted to love this phone.
